Coregulation and being “Broken-hearted”

Children under 3 are still heavily dependent on coregulation, meaning

they look to us to know how they feel, or how big a deal something is.

When we are “heartbroken” or “devastated” at a loss or a difficulty or

challenge that a child has, they take from that that they, too, should be

or are heartbroken or devastated.  That makes it harder for them to get through

and does not allow them honor their own authentic responses.

To raise resilient children, model regulation.
